Believe it or not we are half way through 2023. I’m not sure where the time have gone but I know this year needs to slow down. With what have felt like a sudo-Spring, with cooler temps and wild fire smoke, I am ready to finally get into some of the fun activities that New York has to offer before the end of the Summer.
In normal Bucketlist fashion, I made a list of some of the awesome activities I’d like to get into and hope that you can draw inspiration to create your own list or try some things off of mine. This season list is very museum and cultural event heavy because there are some truly exciting exhibitions and shows happening. I really hope to get through most of these items and to share my experiences right here for you guys.
- See the Karl Lagerfeld- A line of Beauty Exhibit at the Met
After seeing the looks and behind the scenes from this year’s Met Gala, I am super excited to check out the Karl Lagerfeld exhibit. It runs until July 16th so definitely need to make that trip asap! - Check out the Brownstone Jazz Ensemble
I recently discovered, on a recent IG rabbit hole session, that there in a Brownstone in Brooklyn that offers a fantastic selection of Jazz from a live band. It’s an intimate affair and sounds like the perfect date night. Having lived in one of the most monumental places for Jazz in the 20s,30s and 40s, Harlem, for 8 years now, I am ashamed to admit I haven’t been to a Jazz show as yet. I am certainly ready to change that and the Brownstone Jazz Ensemble seems like the perfect first time. - Play Full round of Golf
This one might seem like it way out in left field, but I have recently taken up learning how to play golf. Having taken lesson when I was a kid, I thought it would have come back to me naturally but alas, it hasn’t. I have been working with the great (black owned) golf training compan, In 18, to learn how to play and socializing with other great women while I do. My goal is to play a full course by the end of the summer.
- Go to a Yankee Game
This one is mainly to live out a Sex and the City fantasy but also to appease my husband who keeps inviting me to go. Though I think baseball is a pretty dull game to watch, I also think it would be a fun drunken New York City activity. - See Shakespeare in the park
Seeing a Shakespeare in the park is a time honored NYC tradition. I’ve been one show maybe 5 or 6 years ago and I think it time to check it out again. This years play is Hamlet and it is slated to be an amazing adaptation. - See the Lavender fields in Long Island
This has been on my list for quite sometime now and I am determined to feel like I’m Provence this summer with just a short 1hr and a half car ride. - Shop the newly Reopened Century 21
When Century 21 closed down due to covid, I was more than devastated. Shopping at Century 21 as a tween on my visits to NYC and then again as a young adult when I first moved here, was one of my first introductions to designer goods. Even after I could afford retail, Century 21 was still a store I frequented for steeply discounted designer fashions. When I heard it was coming back I was ecstatic. I have yet to make the pilgrimage to The financial District to shop but that WILL happen sometime this summer.
- Eat Breakfast At Tiffany’s
Tiffany’s has finally finished their renovations and have finally reopened their iconic 5th ave store. With that, their Blue box cafe has also reopened and I am dying to get a reservation and live out my best Audrey Hepburn fantasy. - Visit the Highline – see the Old tree
When I started to write this post this something that I really wanted to do and on a random day last week, Robbie and I got to a chance to check out the highline for the first time in years and it was so beautiful. I decided to leave this one on the list because I’d definitely like to go back again for the end of the summer and would encourage you to do so as well if you haven’t been in a while. - Try Tatiana, By Kwame Onwuachi
Tatiana is another hard to get reservation that I am itching to get my hands one. This Afro-Caribbean restaurant has garnered very high marks on some of the most distinguished food critics so I am super excite to try.
- Brooklyn Museum – Africa Fashion Exhibit
Making its North American Debut, Africa Fashion exhibit has created quite the buzz for the fashion girlies and art aficionados in NYC. Putting art and fashion together and making it about the Africa or the diaspora and I am there! - Do and overnight stay in the Hamptons
This bucket list item is another on of those that make me look like a bad New Yorker. I have been to the happen twice for quick day trips but I’d really like to spend a weekend discovering that all that makes it so special and highly frequented during the summertime by New York’s rich and famous and those who like that vibe. I would also be pretty cool to preview some properties while I’m out there.
Well, there you have it folks, another bucket list listed. I’ll be documenting my achievement of these listed excursions for you guys right here on the blog, so be sure to check out my reviews and guides to some pretty awesome NYC summertime activities. Let me know in the comment if any of these adventures sparked your interest.
