This season wasn’t my first time seeing the Mara Hoffman show in person but it was my first time being able to go behind the scene and see the model prep before the show. Let me tell you that backstage life is “The Life”. Being back stage for a few shows was literally the only way that I was able to eat half time. They have catered food and drinks for all of the hungry model make up and hair artists and blogger chicks (like me). But I digress.
The hair for Mara Hoffman was what was described by the lead hair stylist, Nick Irwin, as a deconstructed braid. It was like beautiful chaos in my opinion. Nick said that the only products used for this look was dry shampoo by Tigi, to add texture and hair spray also by Tigi, to keep everything in place. He then braided the hair (or extension piece if needed) towards the back of the head, just loose enough to create a faux bob effect in the front. Once the hair was braided he then used pieces of elastic to tie around the braids and sort of dishevel them. The result was absolutely beautiful. Nick said that the inspiration was one that he got from Mara Hoffman herself. Her clothing is known for a lot of bright beachy colors and Nick wanted to evoke the feeling of being in California with the beachy deconstructed braids.
Speaking of the clothing, Mara Hoffman S/S 2015 collection took a bit of a step away from her usual bold, brightly colored patterned frocks we have all come accustomed to. This collection was a bit more subdued and airy, which is where the airy, beachy relaxed hair inspiration came from. Loose fitting floor length dresses and large culotte pants (a huge trend for spring) where in abundance, though she was able to give us those “Mara Hoffman patterns” we love but on a much smaller and subdued way, opting for some subtle beading and embroidery.
Check out a few of my favorites from the collection and a behind the scene look at hair and makeu.
