Harlem’s Fashion Row is a great organization that provides a voice for designers of color through a creative platform that enables these designers to sell and present their collections to key leaders within the fashion industry. Every fashion week they host a plethora of event geared toward teaching and bring fashion professions together. I was fortunate enough to win tickets to attend a luncheon that was held in conjunction with the root, to discuss Fashion and Finance. Panelist included Byron Lars, who is know for his many designs at anthropology and for First lady Michelle Obama, Teri Agins, who is a fashion/retail author and columnist, Shirleyann Robertson, who is a financial advisor for Prudential, and Kimberly Goldson, who is a form project runway contest and designer.
During the luncheon the panel was asked various question about how some issues with staring a career in fashion and funding it. While listened to the discussion, which was held at Brasseries 8/12, we dined on our choice of delicious chicken or steak which was severed with vegetable. After the discussion, we had an opportunity to check out some of Byron Lars’ piece from his new collection. The piece were super chic and very wearable. The black Jacket in the last photo is my favorite. I could really see myself rocking it. Check out more of his collection here.
