I am no ones make-up savant. I love a nice beat face every now and then but I am not a beauty junkie like many I’ve seen making waves on the inter webs. One thing I do Stan for is a good red lip. Its basically my signature look and so much so that I get asked about what color I have on at least once a week.
There is nothing better than a red lip. It’s sexy, bold, confident and oh so powerful. I love rocking a red lip because its like a punctuation for an outfit. You can never be basic rocking a red lip.
Being that its so close to valentines day and the color of the holiday is red, I figured I’d take this opportunity to give away all my red lip secrets. I have done the leg work and have sampled many many red lip sticks but here are a few of my favorites that are tried and true.
Fenty Beauty Stunna in Uncensored– This lip color is in my top two favorites. The color is bold, goes on so smoothly and looks amazing on my skin tone. The design of the applicator makes it super easy to apply without having to line your lip and the liquid formula dries quickly and doesn’t budge for hours.
Mac Retro Matte Lipstick in Ruby Woo– This is the second lipstick rounding out my top two favorites. Ruby Woo was my go to for years. It was my first matte lipstick and quickly became a favorite. Its the perfect shade of red and it stays put even after eating.
Make-up Forever in C405 – This was the first red lipstick I ever bought. I was so nervous to try red and the lady at Sephora was like :this color would look great on your skin tone, its a blue- red.” So I tried it and fell in love. It’s a little bit darker than my two favorite reds and has a satin finish instead of matte but it is truly an amazing color. For it to be so creamy, it has great staying power, so much so that your lips are stained red even after trying to take it off with make-up remover.
Pat McGrath Labs Mattetrance Lipsticks in Elson– There is no leaving the fairy God-mother of make-up out of a red lipstick round up. Pat McGrath’s make-up line is almost as fabulous as the woman herself. Not only is the packaging sublime but the quality of the products is out of this world. The Elson color of her Mattetrance collection, is the perfect blue-red matte lipstick. The smooth glide formula makes it super easy to apply and gives you great rich color without having to apply much. This lipstick is also one of the only ones that I’ve found that doesn’t disappear from my inner lips after eating.
Maybelline Color Sensation Vivids in 890 Neon Red– Though this is the only drug store brand on my list, it does hold its own against the others in the color department. This orange-red lipstick is my go to in the Summer for a tropical vibe. It has a creamy glossy finish and it super easy to apply. I will say, it does not last long and you have to reapply often but the bright red color makes up for it.
Mac Velvetease Lip Pencil in Just Add Romance- This red is very comparable to Ruby Woo. It’s a tad darker than its sister color but the pencil applicator makes it super easy to apply. The color goes on super smooth, though it doesn’t last as long as Ruby Woo.
Neosporin Lip Health Overnight renewal Therapy– This isn’t, obviously, a red lip color but it a super important part of having your red lipstick look amazing. After wearing a matte red all day, taking it off with make-up removers and then washing my face, my lips get super dry. This overnight lip mask restores all of the moisture while I sleep and I wake up with perfectly moisturized lips.
So these are my favorites so far. There are a few that I’m looking to try by Nars that seem promising but until then this is all I have. Hope you enjoyed my round up and I would love to hear about your favorite red lipsticks in the comment section.
