I’ve gotten really good at faking it. Before you judge, let me explain. I have been blogging for almost 6 years now and one of the thing’s that I’ve learned from being in this blogger world is that you really have to fake it ’til you make it. If you’re not the most confident, fake confidence. If you’re camera shy, pretend you are Naomi Campbell. And in my case, if you can’t always afford the latest and greatest designer wears, make your own.
I’ve found myself spending more and more time in front of the sewing machine making clothes that I love. At first, I looked at it as a way to save money because I tend to spend a lot on clothes (what girl doesn’t?) but I’ve started to grow really fond of sewing my own pieces. The process of turning a piece of fabric into a super fashionable piece of clothing gives you an indescribable high. The high is elevated when you get tons of compliments on the pieces you made and get to tell them, “I made it!”

DIY Pants (similar here)
DVF Heels (similar on sale here)
Zara Bag (love this one)
I made both the kimono and the pants in this look and can not express how proud I am of these pieces.
Now don’t get me wrong, I am not a converted DIYer. I will still be a member of the “shop til you drop” club, but I’m happy to have an alternative to high ticket items I may want but can’t afford just yet. And honestly, I think that even when I can afford all of the pricey designer pieces filling up my cart at Barneys.com, I think that I’ll still have a special place for making my own pieces and will still find myself sitting at the sewing machine making a Trisha original.
Am I the only one out there good at faking it? Let me know about your “fake it ’til you make it” moment in the comments.
