I feel that, as creative, if I’m in a rut or not feeling myself, my first step to remedy these feelings usually involve some kind of creative outlet. Whether curating outfits, doing some kind of interior design project, sewing or cooking, doing something that in the end I can look at and say, “I made that”, gives me such joy and really helps in those times when life gets a bit over whelming. The DIY kimono, in this look, is a direct product of one of those moments.

On a day last week, when I was not feeling myself, I started searching for a little project to do, to work out out my frustrations. I’m currently, obsessed with the Kimono/Cardigan look for summer, so I figure I’d make my own. After a quick, ok well maybe not so quick, trip to Mood fabric, I found myself with 4 yards of awesome fabric and project to keep me occupied. With a little help from my friend, Youtube, and about an hour of effort, I completed this kimono.
Can’t tell you how proud I am of this piece. When, Robbie walked in the house and saw me trying it on, he was convinced I had gone shopping.
After, making this, I think I’ve caught the sewing bug and am now looking forward to making some more pieces for a cute and unique summer wardrobe. My next project will be another kimono but it will be a bit more dramatic than this one. I can’t wait to share the final product with you guys.
Not a DIY kind of person? I’ve picked out some of the chicest Kimono’s out right now and you can shop them below.
You look fabulous! I love the kimono and the flats. The whole look from head to toe is effortless chic!
