Caribbean Week NYC

If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you know that I am a Caribbean girl through and through. My dad is from Haiti, his mom from Cuba and my mom from Barbados, so I’m as Caribbean as they come. Since I’m getting married soon, I’ve been thinking a lot about how to incorporate my culture into our wedding. That is why I am so happy that Caribbean Week is coming up soon in New York City. Caribbean week is a week-long festival, presented by the Caribbean Tourism Association, which encompasses a fusion of creativity in cuisine and culture showcasing the beauty that makes the Caribbean a great place to live and a unique travel destination.

I plan on going to many of the events during this week to get a few ideas (and maybe a few vendors) for my wedding. From flowers, food and even entertainment, I’m sure I’ll find everything I’m looking for at the various event during this week. I’m also making some of my bridesmaids tag along with me because we are planning my bachelorette party which we’ve decided we are going to do in Barbados during Crop over. I usually go to Barbados every year and I thought it would be so great to have my ladies with me to experience it and to spend some of my last days as a “single girl” partying in one of the most beautiful places on earth. I’m sure going to some of the Caribbean week event will definitely get them excited for all of the fun and adventure they are going to experience on our trip.
One of the events that I really want them to experience during Caribbean week is the Rum and Rhythm Benefit & Auction event on June 5th at 6:30PM in Manhattan. This event incorporates all that makes the Caribbean great, including samplings of a variety of top-shelf award-winning rums (hopefully one being Mount Gay which in from Barbados), eclectic authentic cuisine, pulsating music, and a lot more. Of course being that this is a Fashion and FOOD blog, I’m sure you all can guess which part I’m looking forward to most. Along with great food, patrons can look forward to seeing some top Caribbean personalities and celebrities and having an opportunity to bid on beautiful Caribbean artwork, getaways and novelty items of which proceeds go to the Caribbean Tourism Association Scholarship Foundation which helps Caribbean nationals pursue their studies. I love the idea of being able to party and have a good time while being able to give back and help my fellow Caribbean people.

I’m not one to keep and good secret to myself, so I’m encouraging all of you in the New York City area or even if you are planning on visiting the area, to try and make it out to some of the Caribbean Week events and more specifically the Rum and Rhythm Benefit & Auction event. What could be more enjoyable than a summer night with sweet Caribbean music, food and shopping? Literally nothing.
